Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) - 1 Year

                 The one Year DNS Course is a course leading to B.Sc., Nautical Science after 18 months of sea service and also leading to 2nd Mate Foreign going Ceritificate of competency awarded by the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India, enabling the cadets to become Navigating officers on board Merchant Naval Ships anywhere in the world. The one year Diploma in Nautical Science Course is strictly residential.

  • The candidates who meet the eligibility criteria for admission can apply for the courses on the prescribed form of the academy.
    The candidates should submit completed application form along with the following documents:
    1. Educational Qualification Certificate (2 copies attested by a Gazetted Officer)
    2. Final Examination Mark Sheet. (2 copies attested)
    3. School (or) College leaving Certificate( 2 copies attested)
    4. Recent Passport/ Stamp size colour photographs 16 Nos.
    5. Birth certificate (2 copies attested)
    As the candidates with higher educational qualifications are given preferences , certificates to that effect may also be enclosed.
  • All Originals documents to be submitted at the time of Admission.(Additional 8 photographs would be required if selected.)
  • The completed application from should reach the Institute on or before the specified date in the advertisement, through Registered
  • Number of Seats sanctioned : 120
  • Statement mentioning.   Institute is required to   ensure that on  board  training  is  provided  to  the  candidates  after  the successful completion of the course, which may be mandatory for obtaining a  Certificate of Competency  issued by the Directorate General of Shipping, Mumbai.

Mode Of Selection:

  • After collecting and scrutinising the applications, the Selection Board of HIMT will issue call - letters to the short - listed candidates.
    Preference : Candidates will be short-listed generally on merit on the basis of marks secured in the qualifying examination. Preference will be given to higher qualified candidates and to the wards of serving / retired seafarers, subject to meeting the Eligibility Criteria. Copies of the Guardian's CDC will be considered authentic proof for justifying the claim.
  • Short-listed candidates will be called to report at the Academy on the date mentioned in the call-letter. The candidates will have to undergo Written Test or Viva Voce or both. They will be tested on the basis of their attitude and aptitude towards seafaring profession, ability to communicate in English, general comprehension and seafaring background, if any.
  • The candidates who qualify in the final test will be subjected to a Physical Fitness / Medical / Eyesight examination as per MS Rules,in force by the doctors appointed by D.G. Shipping.Selection will be confirmed only if the candidate is found to be medically fit for sea service.
  • As soon as the medical Examination is over the selected candidates must be able to take admission by paying the course fees. If they fail to do so, the seat will be offered to candidates on the waiting list.

Caution

  • Any suppression of truth, mis-representation of facts or submission of false Certificates will result in cancellation of admission, forfeiture of fees and shall be punishable as per the law. Fees once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.
